The Cover Revealed
About a week and a half ago, I was in Kraków to meet with Wojtek Klimczyk, whom I mentioned in an earlier newsletter. It was a truly wonderful meeting and a moment of deep recognition, especially in how our stories about Nijinsky overlap, as well as in the journey to Switzerland that he, too, undertook because of the diaries.
He will now be writing an essay for my book, and together with some final text layout and the text editing by Boris Hamilton of a few remaining pieces, that marks the last part of the process.
Because of the intensity surrounding the book, I didn’t make it to Paris Photo as I had planned. It turned out to be a little too optimistic to try to do it all. One of my works did make it to the Art Icon exhibition, though. A dear friend who was there sent me some photos and a short video so I could still get a sense of it. To be honest, I’m not entirely sure, judging only from the images, whether it was truly worth it. That’s always difficult to assess from a distance.

Designing my book was something I kept postponing. I hesitated for a long time, even though it felt right to take it on myself. It became a process of trial and error. But through the feedback of, among others, my agent Sofia Krysaik from HERphoto agency and several people around me whom I trust, it has become something I’m genuinely happy with. Earlier this week I discussed the last details with Sybren Kuiper, and besides being an exceptional photobook designer, he is also an emotional viewer, his tips and insights have been very valuable.
Now, I’m excited to share the dummy cover with you. It features a drawing by Nijinsky, made in Saint Moritz between 1918 and 1919, just before he was admitted to the clinic in Kreuzlingen, the eyes, so characteristic of his story. The book has the look of a journal from that time, one he used to write and draw in: a black linen band wraps the spine, and the drawing is printed on recycled paper and mounted on a hardcover, giving it a quiet weight and presence.
With the design complete, the next step is finding the right printer and binder to bring it fully to life.
In Search of Nijinsky, will be published april / may 2026
